چکیده

Interactive virtual worlds feature dynamic characters that must navigate through a variety of landscapes populated with various obstacles and other agents. The process of navigating to a desired location within a dynamic environment is the problem of steering. While there are many approaches to steering, to our knowledge there is no standard way of evaluating and comparing the quality of such solutions. To address this, we propose a diverse set of benchmarks and a flexible method of evaluation that can be used to compare different steering algorithms. We discuss the challenges and criteria for objectively evaluating steering behaviors and describe the metrics and scoring method used in our benchmark evaluation. We hope that, with constructive feedback from the community, our framework will eventually evolve into a standard and comprehensive approach to debug, compare and provide an overall assessment of the effectiveness of steering algorithms.

SteerBench: a benchmark suite for evaluating steering behaviors

Steering is a challenging task, required by nearly all agents in virtual worlds. There is a large and growing number of approaches for steering, and it is becoming increasingly important to ask a fundamental question: how can we objectively compare steering algorithms? To our knowledge, there is no standard way of evaluating or comparing the quality of steering solutions. This paper presents St...

Criteria for Evaluating Early Creative Behavior in Computational Agents

Our research is focused on the study of the genesis of the creative process. With this purpose we have created a developmental computational agent, which allows us to watch the generation of the first behaviors we could consider as creative. It is very important to develop methodologies to evaluate the behaviors generated by this kind of agents. This paper represents our first effort towards th...

Fast, Neat and Under Control: Inverse Steering Behaviors for Physical Autonomous Agents

Steering behaviors are a set of motion based reactive procedures used for navigating autonomous agents in their environment. Combinations of steering behaviors can be used to create complex behaviors. One problem inherent to existing approaches to arbitrating between single behaviors is that their combination may lead to suboptimal, undesired, or even catastrophic results in certain situations....

Kinematic Synthesis of a Trailing Six-member Mechanism for Automotive Steering

Kinematic synthesis of a trailing six-member mechanism has been carried out to achieve five precision points of an automotive steering mechanism. The inner wheel can be rotated up to forty five degrees with fair accuracy. Results show that the divergent end behavior of Ackermann Steering Mechanism has been overcome by the present mechanism. The work is similar to earlier work by the present ...

Evaluating Health in All Policies; Comment on “Developing a Framework for a Program Theory-Based Approach to Evaluating Policy Processes and Outcomes: Health in All Policies in South Australia”

Health in All Policies (HiAP) has gained attention as a potential tool to address complex health and societal challenges at global, regional, national and subnational levels. In a recent article, Lawless et al propose an evaluation framework developed in the context of the South Australia HiAP initiative. Strategies, mediators, activities and impacts identified in the framework could potentiall...
